AFTER HOURS CLUB

Spoken word open mic - sign up on the night ONLY.

AFTER HOURS CLUB Back with avengance our naughty late night poetry club makes its 2010 debut featuring: you!! Following WORD OF MOUTH at the Norwich Arts Centre this saucy little number is open to all poets, new and seasoned alike. Each month we have a guest compere who (vaguely) holds the night together and shows us how its done. MC TIM CLARE Im so very excited to announce that Tim Clare will be the guest MC for the evening, wow!! Serious credentials, hes even been on the telly. Check this out for a biog: Tim Clare is a writer, stand-up poet and musician. His autobiographical book about having one last shot at your dreams, We Can’t All Be Astronauts, won Best Biography/Memoir at the East Anglian Book Awards 2009. It is out now from Ebury Press. He has written for the Guardian, the Times and the Independent, and has appeared on BBC2, Radio 1, 2, 4 and 6. In 2005 he presented the Channel 4 series ‘How To Get A Book Deal’. He is a regular performer at many festivals including Glastonbury, Leeds and Reading, and Latitude.

So how does AFTER HOURS CLUB work? We have a lovely clipboard attached to the microphone so grab it and write your name down (from 10.15pm), thats it really! Its first come first serve but we are very kind people so if you are up at 6am please let us know and we will endeavour to get you on early, where possible. Why not? You can't swing a cat in Norwich for writers and theres nothing more delightful than hearing the author read their own work hence the launch of this late night project. Dust off old material, try out new stuff, or even take the stage for the first time. This is a spoken word only open mic club and we want to foster a friendly and experimental environment. Last time we had 2 poets perform for the very first time, a fantastic chap who read T.S.Eliot in Lithuanian and performances from local poetry celebs JOHN OSBORNE and YANNY MAC, so don't be afraid, words are meant to be spoken and we wanna hear them. 3 poems or 5 minutes EACH. Sign up on the night ONLY. We have secured a lovely little rider for all you poety people, there are limited free drinks so first come first serve. Much SoapBox love, Amy Wragg 10.30pm-12.30pm The Ten Bells FREE ENTRY

The Ten Bells

The Ten Bells is a friendly booze house, with regular acoustic music, and failing that a wicked jukebox.
