Festival Gardens Street Party
Norfolk & Norwich Festival brings celebrations to the streets.
Friday 14th May 2010
The event will, as usual for the NNF programme, focus heavily on live entertainment. Throughout the weekend, expect to see suitcases crammed with invisible bees. Expect incompetent undertakers. Expect music from Radio Barkas and Miniscule of Sound. Expect Hula-Hoop.
If you plan on taking the kids, why not breeze down to the Spiegeltent tomorrow for a 3pm start to comedy, street theatre and circus? Also, a labyrinth of puzzles, both for children and adults - El Labyrint - and the merry-go-round of Theatre Froe Froe, will be in the Gardens throughout the Festival.
After hours, a 7pm show of 'La Vie' from Les Doigts De La Main adds a darker flavour of circus antics to the bill. Those with a head for heights can drift down to Norwich Cathedral to witness death-defying stunts from actors on high-wires throughout the day.
Future Radio will be covering the building of a 'Cardboard City' at Blackfriars Hall. A team of young presenters will oversee the construction of the smallest suburb in Norwich - 'Home Sweet Home'. Everyone is invited to add their individual piece to the layout, planned around an existing City Hall, Castle and River Wensum. Flat-pack cardboard houses are free. Upgrades are charged at £1. Houseboats and businesses, along with craft materials will be available.
Free entry into the Festival gardens begins at 11am and runs to 5pm, but individual events may charge.
Entry to Blackfriars 'Home Sweet Home' begins at 11am, and runs to 7pm, tomorrow, Sunday and Monday.
