Festival season draws to a close.
As another successful Norfolk & Norwich Festival ends, it's looking good for City of Culture bid.
Monday 24th May 2010
The Norfolk & Norwich Festival tradition continues to this day. As the deadline for bids to become the first UK City of Culture passes, this years' event draws to a close. It is fitting, perhaps, that the two dates coincide. After the 16 days of arts and culture, featuring acts from across the world, Norwich remains a national front-runner in the ceative and cultural arena.
The Norwich Fringe Festival also comes to an end, having run directly alongside the Norfolk & Norwich Festival.
Over the recent weeks, the city has become a hive of creative happenings - down alleyways and streets, and in the parks, pubs and theatres, something of an artistic bent has been going on. There's been events catering for all ages and tastes - an eclectic mix of the very best performance art, music and comedy on offer from around the world.
Norwich has, and always has had, a strong identity. Stuck far out on the lump of England, the 'Second City' has maintained its' sense of heritage and history, whilst embracing a promising future. The local festival season may come and go, but coupled with our local, more established creative entities, it highlights why we, above all other contenders, deserve to be named as the 2013 UK City of Culture in the summer of this year.
We've covered various Fringe and NNF events recently, and let you know about some of the highlights each has to offer. We're already looking forward to next years' festivals, and we aim to bring full coverage of each right to your doorstep, with interviews, photos, news and more.
We'll see you there.
