Triumph and Celebration.
Norwich and Norfolk Festival goes out with a bang.
Sunday 17th May 2009
Having held a key role in the city's' cultural calendar for 238 years, the Festival helps bring the local area to a worldwide stage, hosting music and dance events, as well as circus, theatre and performance art from the far corners of the globe.
Jonathan Holloway (Festival Director), was optimistic for the future.
"We are attracting world-class performers into Norwich - we are giving more people than ever before the chance to experience this part of the world in a completely new way, and we are cementing the reputation of this beautiful county as one of the cultural hot spots of the UK".
With more than 1,000 artists and performers bringing their talent to Norwich for the Festival, and 29,000 tickets sold, the annual bash looks indeed set to go from strength to strength. More than 8,000 people attended the Garden Party held in Chapelfield Gardens, attracted by the Spiegeltent and Luminarium.
Such levels of support, coupled with the growing international acclaim of the Festival mean high hopes for the spot the region holds on the creative map.
As one might expect, the Festival has the full backing of Norwich City Council, among other important organisations in the area. The Council Chief Executive, Laura McGillivray :
"This years Festival has had something for everyone. As a major supporter, we have been very keen to see that as many people as possible have had a slice of the festival cake. Congratulations to the Festival team and thanks to all those who have supported this year's event."
