ATM guested by Nirvana veterans
Industry magnates visit students to impart knowledge built on grunge greats.
Monday 7th June 2010
A question and answer session and guest seminar from leading industry bigwigs, taking place on Wednesday, will aim to give students a professional insight into the world of PR, promotion and touring.
The Access To Music crew have drawn on their lists of contacts, gathered through their own years as working industry professionals. Ian Johnson, college principal, said:
"We have a music industry mentor in our college called Rick Lennox who has a vast list of industry contacts that we are able to call upon as guest speakers.”
This ability of staff to call on old acquaintances has paid off well for those studying at the college. Anton Brookes, once publicist for the world-conquering grunge band Nirvana, is now at the helm of Bad Moon PR, representing such major acts as The Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters and The Beastie Boys.
He visits alongside Tony Dobson, a former promoter of Nirvana. Mr. Dobson now works for the worldwide promotion company Metropolis Music, organisers of the V Festival, and who handle tours for Robbie Williams, Oasis, Take That, Coldplay, The Killers and Keane, among others.
The pair will be sharing their combined knowledge of the modern music industry, as well as stories and experiences from their days working for one of the most significant and influential bands ever to walk the earth. Ian Johnson:
“We are very lucky to be able to get speakers of this calibre into the college, and to be able to give our students the opportunity to meet and question industry professionals as part of their studies."
The studios have previously had visits from Justin Hawkins, frontman of The Darkness, and members of The Prodigy.
