Lord Mayors' Celebrations Updated
New running times aimed at attracting wider audience.
Monday 28th June 2010
The new line-up of events promises to include something to suit every taste - organisers hope to attract a wide audience to the celebrations this year. It involves New Orleans-esque parades and processions, music, animation, comedy and street performance.
More than 60 locally produced floats are expected on Saturday 10th from 5pm-7pm, alongside gymnasts, dancers and drummers.
Events and Culture Manager Helen Selleck commented:
“It's not just for families - there really is something for everyone. We hope even more people will come out and enjoy [the celebrations] this year as a result of the changes we have made.”
The occasion spans the four days from Thursday 8th - Sunday 11th July. The ever-popular Chapelfield Music Festival takes place on the Saturday and runs from 11am - 10pm.
Locally-produced animation will grace the Norwich Big Screen throughout the event, and new bands and artists will feature in the BBC Music Video Festival at Fusion in The Forum.
This promotion of local talent will come as a boost to the City Of Culture bid.
Helen Selleck:
"Norwich has so much going on and so much energy, and the Lord Mayors' Celebrations are one of the highlights in its social calendar."
