Unveiled - highlights for NNF 11
Early start for Norfolk & Norwich Festival as countdown begins.
Friday 26th November 2010
Following the recent launch of the new NNF 2011 website, some of the highlights for this years' bash have already been unveiled. Organisers have released details of large attractions set to spearhead the Festival next year, alongside a schedule of international music acts, theatre and circus acrobatics.
The so-called 'Queen Of Fado', Mariza, comes to the Theatre Royal, as do the Grammy Award-winning Kronos Quartet (US) and Moroccan acrobat/dance outfit Chouf Ouchouf.
Mariano Pensotti, famed for the three-night closure of London Street during his UK premiere of 'La Marea' in 2009, will bring his new work, 'The Past Is A Grotesque Animal' to a permanently revolving stage EPIC Studios.
Further afield, 'Dining With Alice' will include 256 waiters in an Al-Fresco Victorian banquet. Guests include the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter and Alice. The event takes place at the 15th Century manor house at Elsing Hall, near Dereham.
"This is just a taste of what’s to come when we announce our full programme for NNF11," said Festival Director, Jonathan Holloway. "Despite the cuts to the arts, we are doing all we can to work with regional and international partners to continue to make Norfolk & Norwich Festival as extraordinary, as diverse and as irresistible as our audiences have come to expect."
As usual, there is a focus on participation. The search is on for saxophonists of all ages and skill levels to take part in 'Andy Sheppards' Saxophone Massive' - an outdoor performance featuring 200 players alongside the jazz musician and other world-recognised names.
Mr. Sheppard said of the occasion:
"There are 200 saxophonists to recruit. As long as you can play a note, we want you, but equally, we want really experienced players coming in and joining us as well."
Returning, as ever, will be the NNF free street theatre programme, including the famed Festival Garden Party, that attracted more than 20,000 people and participants last year.
