Norwich Arts Centre
Norwich Arts Centre is a small, independently run venue with charitable status.
Norwich Arts Centre is a live music venue, concert hall and theatre located in St. Benedict's Street in Norwich, Norfolk, England. It has a capacity of 290 for standing music concerts.
The venue opened in 1977 in an old department store on Benedicts Street. The venue was moved to its current site in St Swithin's church in 1980. One of the more unusual venues on the UK rock music circuit the main room is a converted church, complete with tombstones on the floor.
Although a small venue, Norwich Arts centre has hosted a list of bands and comedians including Inspiral Carpets, Cornershop, Catatonia, Nirvana, Oasis, Muse, Stone Roses, Coldplay, Jack Dee, Bill Hicks, Mark Lamarr, Johnny Vegas, Mark Thomas, David Baddiel, Frank Skinner , and Rob Newman.
The venue is especially noted by rock music fans for being the site where Richey James Edwards from the Manic Street Preachers carved the words "4 Real" into his forearm with a razor blade to make a statement.
